The Council on Foundations has named Ruth LaToison Ifill as its new Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She will lead efforts to develop and implement strategic initiatives, tools, educational programs and opportunities that foster a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion among philanthropic organizations.

“We’re thrilled that Ruth is bringing her vast experience to the Council,” said Julianne Sobral, Chief Operating Officer of the Council. “As a member of the senior leadership team, she will play a key role in setting a strategic direction for the Council’s work in providing leadership for the philanthropic sector around advancing diversity, equity and inclusion.”

Before coming to the Council, Ruth served as the manager of national career development services for veterans and military family members for Goodwill Industries International. In that role, she also oversaw a body of work focused on developing a culture of learning and diversity. Ruth spearheaded initiatives to improve organizational understanding of and engagement with diversity and inclusion issues internally and in programmatic implementation. Additionally, Ruth, a military spouse, led a $5 million initiative to support veterans and military family members as they transitioned to civilian life after military service.

Ruth holds a bachelor of business administration in marketing from Howard University, a master’s in organizational development from Trinity Washington University, and a Certified Diversity Professional designation from the Institute of Diversity Certification. Ruth is currently enrolled in The George Washington University’s Executive Leadership Doctoral Program in Human and Organizational Learning.
