UK report argues that tackling climate change can produce economic benefits
Tackling climate change offers a huge opportunity for boosting the economy and reducing poverty in the UK, argues a new report from the Roundtable on Climate Change and Poverty in the UK, a group of leading environmental and social justice groups. Tackling Climate Change, Reducing Poverty shows that the poorest people in the UK will be the worst affected by the effects of climate change, but it also shows that the need to combat climate change presents opportunities to tackle poverty.

Possible environmental silver lining to financial crisis, UNEP official tells seminar
According to Angela Cropper, Deputy Executive Director of the UN Environment Program (UNEP), the global financial crisis may not be entirely bad if it stimulates governments to boost spending on renewable energy and energy efficiency. Addressing a seminar in Bangkok last month aimed at finding innovative ways to help countries adapt to climate change, she welcomed the recent announcements by several Asian countries, including South Korea and Japan, of a green component to their economic stimulus packages.
