Finnish fund for local cooperation in Argentina
Administered by the Embassy of Finland in Argentina, the Local Cooperation Fund supports initiatives by NGOs and other non-governmental institutions in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. At the close of the annual announcement period, a list of institutions whose projects were approved for 2008 was published. The objective of the Local Cooperation Fund is to promote democracy, governance, sustainable development, human rights and the fight against poverty, particularly through the strengthening of civil society.
Among the initiatives approved for 2008 include a project by ICD, Instituto de Comunicación y Desarrollo (Communication and Development Institute) entitled ‘Fight against corruption - democratic governance in Uruguay’. Others include a programme on environmental community education by the Argentinean organization ECOS and a project to promote equity in the public education system, to be implemented by the Asociación Civil por la Igualdad y la Justicia (Civic Association to Promote Equality and Justice).
