(Communication and Development Institute)
ICD is non-profit civic association, based in Montevideo, Uruguay. Founded in 1986, the institution bears a vast experience in the design and execution of projects aimed to contribute to the strengthening of civil society in its various forms and to strengthen citizen participation in democracy and development processes.
ICD´s mission is to produce knowledge and promote actions that contribute to greater citizen participation in democratic life, in the processes of national development and in regional integration.
The organization’s primary objective is to strengthen an inclusive an equitable democratic development. As such, ICD seeks to strengthen civil society and drive active participation across all sectors. ICD pays special attention to the role organized citizens play in society in the consolidation and improvement of democracy, in the reflection and practice of development initiatives and its participation in Latin American integration.
For the achievement of such goals, ICD performs activities in the fields of information and documentation; applied research; dissemination by means of publications, seminars and campaigns; technical advice and consultancy. ICD´s main working areas are: social information and communication, development and democracy actors, regional integration, international cooperation, social responsibility, accountabilty, volunteering and philanthropy.
ICD is part of ISTR, International Society for Third Sector Research (www.istr.org), and coordinates its Latin American Network. The Institute is also a member of CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation (www.civicus.org), chaired by ICD director Anabel Cruz, and is a member of the Puentes Corporate Social Responsibility Network (www.redpuentes.org). At a national level ICD is a founding member of ANONG, National Association of NGOs in Uruguay (www.anong.org) and currently is the Chair of the Board.
