US grantmakers combine to help US donors give internationally
The Resource Foundation, King Baudouin Foundation United States, and Give2Asia have combined to create the Alliance for International Giving to make overseas giving easier for US donors. Launched at the end of May, the Alliance will give donors access to a combined philanthropic network that spans Asia, Europe, Africa, Central and South America, and the Caribbean, allowing them to connect with local, reputable and effective non-profit organizations.
In addition, the Alliance will help clients navigate US giving regulations, and international and donor accountability, while Alliance members can coordinate research on areas of interest and help donors develop effective giving strategies.

New Ford president shuns ‘change for change’s sake’
Luis Ubiñas will succeed Susan Berresford as President of the Ford Foundation when she steps down in January. Ubiñas has worked for consulting firm McKinsey for the past 18 years. Referring to him as a ‘dark-horse candidate’, the New York Times says his appointment is ‘expected to stun the nonprofit world’. Kathryn Fuller, chair of Ford’s board, said the trustees deliberately did not specify the type of experience they were seeking. ‘Where we started and ended,’ she said, ‘was … with the values of the institution, which are a bedrock commitment to social justice and innovation and to helping those whose voices are not heard.’ Ubiñas himself said he had no plans for a radical overhaul. ‘Change for change’s sake is never good. For me, it’s about innovation, and innovation has defined Ford for a long time.’
