Gleitsman Award nominations sought
Nominations are being taken for the 2009 Gleitsman International Activist Award, which recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves by efforts to confront, challenge and correct social injustice. Former award winners include Nelson Mandela and Sakena Yacoobi for her work to educate and provide services to the women and children of Afghanistan, which began under the Taliban regime. The winner will receive $125,000 and a specially commissioned sculpture. The award is made by the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government under the Gleitsman Program for Leadership in Social Change. The closing date for nominations is 17 April.

Social enterprises share 2009 Skoll Award
Seven organizations have won a 2009 Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship and will receive three-year grants of $765,000 (£535,000) in unrestricted funding, and join the global network of Skoll social entrepreneurs. The organizations are: BioRegional Development Group, EcoPeace – Friend of the Earth Middle East, Fundacion Gaia Amazonas, INJAZ Al-Arab, International Center for Transitional Justice, VisionSpring, and WaterPartners International. The awards were presented at the Skoll World Forum in Oxford late last month.
