New partnership to reduce price of most effective malaria treatments
The UK government and UNITAID are launching a £150 million partnership fund to cut the price of drugs to fight malaria. Under the deal, the British government will provide £40 million and UNITAID, which works wth drug firms to increase the availability of their products in poor countries, will provide the rest.

Clinton Initiative and UNITAID negotiate new price reductions for HIV/AIDS medicines
The Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) and UNITAID have announced agreements with drug manufacturers to significantly reduce the price of key HIV/AIDS medicines. Among other things, the new agreements will further lower the cost of the most affordable generic second-line ARV regimen by 17 per cent compared to prices announced by the two groups last year, and by 18 per cent and 39 per cent compared to average market prices in low- and middle-income countries.

ANDE initiative to support ‘missing middle’ in developing countries
The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) has launched an initiative to provide capital, business training and support services to entrepreneurs in the developing world, who comprise what it terms the ‘missing middle’ – businesses that are too large to qualify for microfinance loans but not big enough to appeal to banks or venture capitalists.
