CEMEFI - Best CSR practices award for Latin America

As part of the International Seminar on Best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Practices, Cemefi, along with the Network for Corporate Social Responsibility (AliaRSE) and the international network Forum Empresa, presented the Best CSR Practices Award on 27 September in Guadalajara, Jalisco in Mexico. The award ceremony host was UNIRSE Jalisco, a local network of corporate foundations that seeks to promote a new corporate culture in the area.

EU immigration policies have developed rapidly in the last few years, many of them following a trend of restricted entry for migrants, especially those coming from the South. But EU efforts to harmonize immigration policies have led to a situation that is more complex for policymakers, stakeholders and those affected by key decisions. The importance, then, of a strong civil society is greater than ever – especially given the current political climate in Europe, with the rise of populist parties everywhere talking about security issues and scapegoating migrants.

Foundation Center - Latest issue-based web portal is launched

The Foundation Center has launched a new web portal (WASHfunders.org) to serve as a hub of information and resources for funders working around the world to improve water access, sanitation and hygiene – commonly referred to as WASH.

WASHfunders.org provides free access to a broad set of resources for funders, practitioners and policymakers, including:

  • a mapping tool that enables users to interact with data on international aid flows, foundation funding, and key development indicators;

EFC - Foundations’ legitimacy in the spotlight

GIFE - Brazilian donors to discuss new departures in social investment

GIFE’s seventh annual conference, under the title ‘New Frontiers of Social Investment’, will be held next March in São Paulo. The event will explore how the need for innovation has brought new challenges to the sector. The conference theme and topics will form part of the Brazilian Social Investment Vision for 2020. Initiated last year, this process seeks to develop a relevant and legitimate sector embracing several topics, regions and communities, and supported by sustained and diversified investment.

APPC - Give2Asia merges with APPC and forms APAN

Give2Asia has acquired the Asia Pacific Philanthropy Consortium (APPC) and launched a new network, the Asian Philanthropy Advisory Network (APAN). The merged organization, which will retain the name Give2Asia, brings together the grantmaking and philanthropy advice for which Give2Asia is known with the research and advocacy of APPC. The merger also fulfils Give2Asia’s strategy of expanding its presence in Asia and providing bespoke services to donors both there and in the US.

Long-term campaign to tackle disability in Vietnam bears fruit at CGI

One of the pledges made at September’s Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) meeting brings together a number of public, private and philanthropic organizations to address the challenges facing the large numbers of people with physical and mental disabilities in Vietnam. Those involved, who include USAID, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Aspen Institute, IBM and Hyatt Hotels, have between them pledged $3.5 million to coordinate efforts.

Ratings shake-up as Charity Navigator launches CN2.0

After almost 10 years of operation, charity evaluation website Charity Navigator has implemented the first major change to its rating system. Until this September, its ratings assessed only the financial performance of charities, but now they also assess accountability and transparency. This new dimension specifically evaluates the governance and ethical practices of charities, as well as how open they are with information they provide to their stakeholders.
