This year’s Raymond Georis Prize went to Diego Hidalgo Schnur, President and founder of La Fundación para las Relaciones Internacionales y el Diálogo Exterior (the Foundation for International Relations and Exterior Dialogue) and founder of Spain’s prestigious El País newspaper, for his ‘unwavering commitment to social and political harmony’.

Effect to focus on diversity

Hedge fund manager makes largest UK donation

Hedge fund manager Chris Hohn last year donated £324 million to the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), the foundation set up by him and his wife Jamie Cooper-Hohn. The donation is the biggest single one made by a UK philanthropist.

PCNC certification role restored

The Philippine Council for NGO Certification (PCNC) has had its mandate fully restored seven months after the Philippines president issued an executive order stripping it of its role of certifying NGOs’ donee institution status (see Alliance, June 2008). The order was first suspended then finally overwritten.

Banco Santander Chile’s most responsible company

According to the fourth annual CSR ranking carried out by Chile’s Fundación PROhumana, Banco Santander is the country’s most socially responsible business followed by Shell Chile, Microsoft Chile and Hewlett Packard Chile.
