Foundation Center – New resources from IssueLab share sector knowledge

We often overlook the valuable role that foundations and non-profits play in producing and funding research – about both the complex social problems we face and the effectiveness of the solutions we pursue.

IssueLab, a service of Foundation Center, gathers, indexes and freely shares the collective intelligence of the social sector, thereby allowing a more complete picture of the sector’s activities and impact to emerge. This autumn, IssueLab launched two new projects focusing on critical issues facing today’s society.

The first, initially part of a synthesis review commissioned by the Rockefeller Foundation’s Program on Oceans and Fisheries, is a special collection of evidence and insights on the topic of small-scale fisheries. The research collection and synthesis report are complemented by a visualization tool, which summarizes key lessons and critical questions for foundations considering funding in this complex area. The collection is a free, public and easily accessible resource to which researchers and practitioners can add related reports.

The second is a Knowledge Center curated and hosted by the European Citizen Action Service (ECAS). This unique collection of more than 400 resources from all over Europe covers the topics of EU Migration and the European Citizens’ Initiative, and will eventually grow to include additional resources on the broader themes of EU Rights and Civic Engagement in Europe. The use of IssueLab’s platform for its Knowledge Center enables ECAS staff to maintain and grow the organization’s digital collection, while contributing the knowledge they gather to the larger, public, IssueLab effort.
