Living Proof that development aid works

Living_ProofThe Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and global advocacy organization ONE have announced the launch of the Living Proof campaign, which is designed to challenge scepticism about the effectiveness of development aid. The goal is to demonstrate that effective solutions to global poverty, hunger, sanitation and human rights violations are starting to show real progress and are having a lasting effect on people’s lives around the world.

ONE is working with its partners to develop open source content that the NGO community can use to help mobilize general support for international development. In addition, ONE’s network of over 2 million members will share development aid success stories, like the 99 per cent reduction in cases of polio worldwide and 50 per cent reduction in child deaths over the past 50 years, through their social media networks and elected representatives. ‘Development aid, when spent wisely, is the most effective investment that governments can make for saving lives, improving livelihoods and building prosperous societies,’ said Bill Gates, speaking at the London launch of the initiative.
