WINGS – WINGS makes transition to independent body

For the past ten years, WINGS has been an unincorporated project hosted by a succession of four associations of grantmakers: the Council on Foundations (USA) and Community Foundations of Canada from 2000 to 2002; the European Foundation Centre from 2003 to 2006; and the Asia Pacific Philanthropy Consortium from 2007 to 2010.

In November 2009 the WINGS Coordinating Committee decided, in consultation with its network participants, that it was in the long-term best interest of the international philanthropic sector for WINGS to become an independent non-profit organization in its own right and to move to a more permanent location.

Helena MonteiroThus, WINGS is in the process of incorporation (this should be completed by December 2010) and will be moving to its more permanent home in São Paulo, Brazil, in January 2011.

When WINGS starts its operations in São Paulo, the secretariat will be headed by its new executive director, Helena Monteiro (pictured). Prior to joining WINGS, Helena was programme director for knowledge and education at the Institute for the Development of Social Investment (IDIS, Brazil), and before that she was programme coordinator for global health at the Canadian Public Health Association.
