In May 2009 UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown invited Dame Stephanie Shirley to become the UK Ambassador for Philanthropy, a position that she held for a year but which was not renewed by the Coalition government that came to power in May 2010. In March 2010 the website AmbassadorsForPhilanthropy.com was launched.
