And one thing always leaps out at me –charities are missing an opportunity to tell donors what they need to know. How so? GuideStar Israel was launched at the beginning of this month. Part of the growing family of national GuideStar portals, under the auspices of GuideStar International, the new online database has content in Hebrew, Arabic and English and lists information on the country’s 29,000 non-profit organizations registered with the National Registrar of Non-profit Organizations. Indian Philanthropy Forum - Indian philanthropy gets high-profile boost

Indian industrialist Shiv Nadar’s donation to his foundation last month of $125 million from his personal fortune catapults him into the list of India’s top philanthropists. The donation coincided with Bill Gates making the prediction that India will become second only to the US in its high-end philanthropy, a challenge the Indian Philanthropy Forum (IPF) is rising to.

GIFE - Online platform unites Brazilian philanthropists

In June, GIFE (Group of Institutes, Foundations and Enterprises) held its first-ever web conference to bring together the most prominent philanthropy groups in Brazil. Also used as a training tool, these online meetings seek to overcome the geographical divides that separate foundation and other non-profit professionals from each other.

The European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA) uses the term venture philanthropy (VP) to describe grantmaking and social investment that involves six characteristics: a hands-on relationship between the social enterprise or non-profit management and the venture philanthropist; use of a range of financing mechanisms; multi-year support; non-financial support; a focus on organizational capacity-building; and performance measurement.
