China’s new law on the Management of the Activities of Overseas NGO within Mainland China has been passed by the National People’s Congress. After releasing a draft version of the law for public consultation last May, Chinese law-makers have now produced the final version.

The law, the first of its kind, is supposed to “regulate the activities of overseas NGOs in China and protect their rights and interests”, but it has understandably caused much trepidation within the NGO community. Fortunately the final version seems to have taken some of the sector’s concerns over the previous draft into account.

China Development Brief has produced its own English translation of the law, which you can find here, or download as a PDF here.
