‘The Funders International Network for Development (FIND) is launching a new peer-learning journey ‘Evolving Practices of International Cooperation‘ dedicated to reimagining traditional philanthropic models and exploring new forms of international cooperation tailored for the 21st century.
The first online event of this two-year peer-learning programme will take place online on the 16th of October 2024. The event will focus on ‘International Cooperation and Local Partnerships’, guiding attendees through an exploration of grassroots-focused, community-driven and power-shifting grant-making.
Analysing the ‘inequality of power between Northern-based funders and Southern-based civil society organisations’, speakers will unpack the many barriers this inequality holds for effective development and locally driven change. They will examine the work of major bilateral donors, many of whom have constructed rights holders and local change-makers as ‘providers’ rather than ‘co-creators’.
In addition to a presentation by CivSource Africa, the online event will encourage discussion between participants. Participants will be prompted to co-create and imagine transformative and human-centred international collaborations that take us beyond traditional grant-making models.
