Lawyer and foundation manager Kirsten Hommelhoff will be the new Secretary General of the Association of German Foundations, or Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen (BDS). Hommelhoff will be the first woman to lead Europe’s largest foundation association and will take up her position on 1 September 2020.

Hommelhoff is joining BDS from the Mercator Foundation where she has held various positions over the course of the last ten years. Most recently, she has been at the head of the Project Centre Berlin of the Mercator Foundation.

Professor Dr Joachim Rogall, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Robert Bosch Stiftung and Chairman of the Executive Board of the Federal Association of German Foundations, commented that BDS will benefit from Hommelhoff’s background and knowledge of the foundation sector.

Hommelhoff succeeds Felix Oldenburg, who departed from the Association at the end of March. Pia Elisabeth Liehr is the current acting secretary general.
