When someone leaves such a prominent job as Secretary General of CIVICUS after ten years, one naturally wonders what will come next. Reading the most recent issue of e-CIVICUS gave me the answer: in November 2009, Kumi will replace Gerd Leopold as Executive Director of Greenpeace International. Gerd Leopold will be stepping down after nearly nine years in the role. Kumi is an activist and a Rhodes Scholar. He was part of the successful struggle against apartheid in South Africa. Today he sits on the board of Greenpeace Africa and chairs the Global Campaign for Climate Action (GCCA).
