New study reveals the world’s most philanthropic billionaires

Comparethemarket.com’s latest study reveals who the world’s most charitable billionaires are, comparing metrics such as their net worth, the amount donated and the percentage of earnings that have been given away over a lifetime.

Warren Buffet came out on top with $46 billion donated, $5 billion more than Bill Gates came who came second and donated 46 per cent of his net worth. All billionaires and net worth values are taken from Forbes’ World’s Billionaires List. The amount in donations is taken from publicly available information.

The percentage of wealth donated is calculated by dividing the amount donated by each billionaire’s net worth.

The study also compared the top 50 charitable female and male billionaire by the percentage each has donated to philanthropic causes in their lifetime. British founder and joint chief executive of Bet365, Denise Coates, is the most philanthropic female billionaire, publicly donating at least 2.4 per cent of her earnings to charitable causes. Worth $5 billion, the self-made billionaire Denise Coates has publicly given away a higher percentage of her fortune (2.4 per cent) than Jeff Bezos of Amazon, who is worth $158.4 billion (1.91 per cent).

The study also revealed that the 72 per cent of the top 50 billionaires donate less that the average person.
