Ethiopian NGO law will ban foreign organizations from funding pro-democracy activities

Ethiopia is planning a law to limit foreign funding for NGOs to less than 10 per cent and to ban foreign organizations from funding pro-democracy activities, according to an article on Afrik.com. The proposed law is about to move to the amendment stage in parliament. It aims to prohibit foreign organizations and local charities from engaging in activities that promote human and democratic rights, ethnic equality, conflict resolution and reconciliation, child rights and the rights of disabled people. It will also ban foreign NGOs from engaging in activities that seek to strengthen the justice and law enforcement services.
