Multi-sector funding pledged for new plan to combat malaria

World leaders have endorsed a new Global Malaria Action Plan (GMAP) and committed $3 billion to it in order to reduce the number of malaria deaths to near zero by 2015. The Plan, announced at the 2008 Millennium Development Goals Malaria Summit last month, includes pledges from multilaterals such as the World Bank and the UNHCR, the Gates Foundation, the UK Government’s Department for International Development, and the Marathon Oil/Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria.
