According to the 2008 Hurun Philanthropy List in China’s Hurun Report, the country’s top 100 philanthropists have contributed 12.9 billion yuan (US$1.8 billion) since 2003. The main areas for giving, according to the report, are education, social welfare, poverty alleviation, health care, disaster relief, culture and sports, and religion donation.
