New website to plug information gap for UK social investors

Social business investment and research firm Catalyst has launched a new website, socialinvestments.com, which aims to be a comprehensive resource on social investing in the UK. The site, launched at the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship in March, provides information on nearly 100 viable and growing social businesses in the UK. It also provides a framework for categorizing them, as well as a glossary of over 150 relevant industry terms, answers to frequently asked questions, and links to useful sites and related material.

The project began at the 2006 Skoll Forum. It was clear, explains Rodney Schwartz, Catalyst CEO, that though social investing ‘was attracting more attention through events such as the Forum, … for the interested and socially concerned investor there was nowhere to go for practical information on the expanding investment opportunities available. Connecting investors with social businesses is an essential part of giving these new types of enterprise what they need. Such services are common in the mainstream investment community, but this is the first dedicated entirely to the social business sector.’
