Puerto Rican non-profit sector producing 5 per cent of GNP, says study

According to a recent study by the country’s Foundations Network, the third sector in Puerto Rico benefited more than 800,000 people in 2007. The Estudio de las Organizaciones Sin Fines de Lucro, 2007 showed that the sector contributed US$3,041 million in 2007, in terms of payroll and volunteer work alone. This figure represents around 5.35 per cent of GNP. NPOs also created 229,608 jobs and mobilized more than 300,000 volunteers.
