Young people main recipients of Brazilian giving, suggests survey

Young people are the main priority for giving in Brazil, suggests a survey carried out by Brazilian umbrella organization GIFE among its members in 2007-08. Ninety-six per cent of those surveyed, which included foundations, NGOs and businessess, had some project involving this group. Educational activities, including training for employment, accounted for 83 per cent of respondents’ giving, with fundraising and support for third sector management also featuring prominently. GIFE’s members invested around 1 billion reals in social, cultural and environmental projects in 2007, around 20 per cent of what the private sector spent on social projects, according to the country’s Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA).
