Brazil government sets up fund to combat Amazon deforestation

The Brazilian government launched a fund at the beginning of August to combat the deforestation of the Amazon. The Fondo Amazonia aims to raise up to $21 billion from contributions around the world by 2021. The fund will be coordinated by the President’s office and administered by the National Economic and Social Development Bank. It will be steered by a committee comprising representatives of federal and state government and civil society.
