Kellogg suspends southern African operations as audit suggests funds diverted illegally

The W K Kellogg Foundation has announced the suspension of its operations in southern Africa for the duration of a financial audit of its office in Pretoria, South Africa. Preliminary indications from the audit are that several hundred thousand dollars, possibly more, may have been diverted illegally, according to a foundation spokesperson, adding that all assets have been secured and that the foundation will cease financial transactions in the country until the audit has been completed. Foundation president and CEO Sterling Speirn said Kellogg will take all necessary steps to recover the missing funds, proceed against those responsible and prevent a recurrence of what he described as a ‘highly regrettable incident’.
