Volunteering levels in the UK have not risen since 2001, despite government efforts to boost them, according to research by consultancy nfpSynergy. Examination of four of the UK Government’s citizenship surveys between 2001 and 2008 shows no discernible increase in the number of people volunteering at least once a month. However, a spokesman for the government’s Cabinet Office said figures showed volunteering levels had risen significantly in 2005, the government-endorsed Year of the Volunteer.
