Packard Foundation supports Safety Net Campaign

The David and Lucille Packard Foundation has contributed $250,000 to Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s emergency safety net campaign (see Alliance eBulletin, November 2008). The money will be matched by the community foundation, which said in October that it would make additional matching grants of up to $1 million for food and shelter to help the most vulnerable people in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. To date, the campaign has received donations of $488,000. It is an effort to respond to the fast-rising demand for basic services which NPOs throughout the region are seeing.
