WFP warns of impending food aid crisis

The World Food Programme (WFP) has launched an ‘urgent appeal’ to governments to donate a record $5.2 billion to cater for an increase in aid recipients because of the economic crisis and rising food prices. The WFP also told donor countries in December that it needs a significant proportion of the money immediately, as it does not have enough funds left to spend in early 2009.
