2006 Raymond Georis Prize goes to Global Challenge project

Kristina Persson, founder of the Swedish Stiftelsen Frejas Fond, was awarded this year’s Raymond Georis Prize for outstanding contributions to philanthropy for the fund’s Global Challenge project. The award was made at the European Foundation Centre conference in Brussels in May. The Prize was launched two years ago by the Network of European Foundations’ Mercator Fund and aims to reward innovative, high-impact European initiatives that illustrate European leadership on global issues.

Raymond Georis himself presented the prize, remarking: ‘Under Kristina Persson’s leadership, the Global Challenge project is creating an open, honest debate about the challenges facing us all today in this increasingly globalized world.’ The Global Challenge network brings together groups of people who would never normally have had the opportunity to communicate with each other to address key European issues within the context of globalization: the changing labour market, welfare, solidarity and international competition, sustainable development, the new threats to security and democracy.
