Effect explores social justice concept

The autumn 2009 issue of the EFC’s Effect explores the concept of social justice as a goal of philanthropy. A series of articles reflects the different ways foundations approach the idea of social justice and how they are working towards this goal through their grants and activities. Two leading practitioners also share their thoughts about this increasingly important and sometimes controversial branch of philanthropy.

This issue also has a section on the EFC’s 2009 Annual General Assembly and Conference (14-16 May), including highlights of the main debates and speeches made by Giorgio Napolitano, President of the Italian Republic, and José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission. Also included are articles on dealing with the media; next steps for the European Foundation Statute; and a new initiative to strengthen global philanthropy.
