Encyclopedia gives Arab region window on to wider world of philanthropy

An Arab-language encyclopedia on philanthropy has been produced by the Arab Foundations Forum (AFF) and the John D Gerhart Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement at the American University in Cairo (AUC).

The online Arab Encyclopedia on Philanthropy is designed to improve access to global experience and information among philanthropists and would-be philanthropists in the Arab region, to enhance the professional conduct of Arab foundations, and to foster learning about grantmaking and social responsibility.

HRH Princess BasmaLaunched in January, the encyclopedia features Arabic translations of 2,000 pages of material from European and North American philanthropy support organizations. ‘We hope this encyclopedia will help fill a previous gap for those seeking Arabic-language information and guidelines for the practice of effective philanthropy,’ says Dr Barbara Ibrahim, Director of the Gerhart Center. The encyclopedia is accessible through the websites of both the Center and the AFF.
