While the main purpose of Grantmakers Without Borders (Gw/oB) is to move more resources to social justice in the global South, an extremely important complement to this mission is the improvement of international grantmaking practice. Gw/oB does not believe that more money alone is what is needed. What is also essential is a transformation of the ways in which northern philanthropy interacts with and supports southern activism. For this reason, philanthropic learning – or donor education, as it’s sometimes called – is a very important part of Gw/oB’s work.
