Self-employment boost for the poor in Colombia and Chile

The Fundación Microfinanzas BBVA (BBVA Microfinance Foundation) and the Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (Ibero-American States Organization for Education, Science and Culture – OEI) will jointly promote professional training for, and entrepreneurial activities among, people living in poverty, with the aim of fomenting self-employment. The project will provide banking and financial training for 600 low-income people with a basic literacy level, 60 per cent of whom are women. Various businesses will receive training in the form of direct consultancy and will have access to micro-loans granted by the BBVA Foundation.
