The Cardano Foundation has announced a partnership with Petrobras, Brazil’s state-owned oil company, to provide blockchain education and explore the use of the technology, that underpins cryptocurrency, in the energy sector.

The non-profit foundation, based in Switzerland, will provide blockchain education workshops for Petrobras’ 45,000 employees.

Founded in 1953, Petrobras is the largest corporation in Brazil and South America, recording revenues of $124.7 billion in 2022.

Cardano is a public blockchain platform that carries out peer-to-peer transactions, launched by Charles Hoskinson, a founder of the Ethereum cryptocurrency.

Its foundation conducted two workshops in the metaverse, a virtual-reality platform created by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, focusing on blockchain regulations in Brazil and around the world.

“Our partnership with Petrobras—a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest public companies in the world—highlights both the appetite from enterprise for blockchain education as well as the growing reach of the Cardano Foundation and its mission. We are excited to partner with Petrobras and look forward to working with them, both to educate and to explore new use cases for blockchain technology,” said Cardano Foundation CEO Frederik Gregaard.

A growing number of charities in South Asia are accepting donations via cryptocurrency, in the hope that this will increase contributions from those working in the finance and tech sectors.

Doctors Without Borders has adopted crypto donations through The Giving Block in 2023, a blockchain donation platform that funnels donations to support important medical initiatives for those in need.

Distributed ledger technology, or blockchain, as it’s more commonly known, is a decentralised digital ledger that records transactions in a secure and transparent manner.
