The bid to drive cross-border giving and break borders within philanthropy has received another boost.

The Myriad Alliance, a global network of organizations that each provide cross-border grant services to donors, has announced a raft of measures to increase cross-border efforts.

The King Baudouin Foundation, with its focus on cross-border philanthropy in Europe, launches Myriad Europe to represent the Myriad Alliance. It will work with donors from across the globe interested in philanthropic activities in Europe, Africa and beyond.

The Gift Trust, a national donor advised fund for New Zealand, announces its membership in the Myriad Alliance. It will offer grant-making capabilities to charitable causes.

A rebrand is also announced, with Myriad Canada and Myriad Australia open to expand philanthropy in both Asia and North America. Both were formerly known as KBF Canada and Give2Asia.

Cross border philanthropy is increasingly in the spotlight.

Philanthropy Europe Association (also known as Philea) has called for the establishment of a single market for philanthropy that it says could unlock potential billions of euros worth of grants and incentives.

Published in its 2024 edition of the European Philanthropy Manifesto, Philea says a single market for philanthropy could facilitate cross-border philanthropy by removing barriers that cost the sector €100 million per year that “prevent work on pressing societal challenges that do not stop at borders”.

Philea also called on “better implementing Article 11 of the Treaty on European Union to create an open, transparent and regular dialogue with civil society, including philanthropy”.
