Alliance Executive Editor, Charles Keidan, spoke with Rachel Stephenson Sheff and Emily Collins-Ellis of I.G. Advisors to debate whether mandatory minimum payout rates should be introduced for charitable foundations in the UK, on the latest episode of the the ‘What Donors Want’ podcast.

Drawing on Pro Bono Economics’ recent report on the potential of the UK’s ‘Hidden Dragon’ Foundations that are ‘sitting on assets’, they discuss the opportunity to increase funding for social causes whilst also balancing donor freedom and the long-term sustainability of foundations. The podcast also featured Nicole Sykes, Director of Policy at Pro Bono Economics; and Rhodri Davies, Founder and Director of Why Philanthropy Matters.

‘A minimum 5 per cent payout (in line with the US and Canada) would lead to an extra £1.8 billion going to the UK Charity Sector.’ Charles Keidan, Alliance magazine
