While philanthropy for environmental causes has traditionally been just a fraction of giving in Australia, a new report shows climate giving is showing signs of growing.

Produced by the Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network, ‘Environment and Climate Change Giving Trends 2022’ found that global funding for climate grew at four times the rate of total philanthropy last year, donations to climate charities in Australia grew by more than 10 per cent, and AEGN members overwhelmingly increased their climate giving.

‘As the urgency of the dual climate and biodiversity crises becomes clearer, the philanthropic community is rising to the challenge… We’re calling on more people to follow their lead,’ said AEGN CEO Amanda Martin.
