TUSEV, the Third Sector Foundation of Turkey, has released its Individual Giving and Philanthropy in Turkey report for 2021, which provides an analysis of the sector. During Covid, half of individuals reported engaging in some sort of giving, TUSEV’s research found.

Throughout 2021, some 45 per cent of individuals reported donating either money or goods to people in need. The average annual donation increased by over 200 per cent in 2021, which the research attributes to disaster response.

And the declining trend of religious giving reversed in 2021, with citizens reporting engaging in alms giving during Eid-al-Fitr increasing from 58 per cent in 2019 to 63 per cent in 2021.

This flourishing of giving is not only limited to individuals. Institutional foundations have increased their donations to civil society organisations over the last year, to support organisations during the pandemic period.
