Members of the Mexican diaspora are to launch a new network to strengthen education in their country of origin, in collaboration with the Mexican Centre for Philanthropy (Cemefi). Members of the new philanthropy network will promote the initiative among fellow diaspora members in the countries where they live (which, besides Latin America, include Australia, Europe, USA and Japan) and will fundraise in their respective countries to support education projects in Mexico, especially in the country’s poorest states. The Mexican Centre for Philanthropy will be a reference and information point for this network, which at present is informal but may become institutionalized in the future. The new network came about following a two-day meeting in December of members of the diaspora with representatives of the Foreign Office, the Institute of Mexicans Abroad, the Mexican Centre for Philanthropy (Cemefi) and the organization Mexicans First.
