Alliance special features usually bring together a wealth of different perspectives and ideas, and the ‘Rethinking scale’ feature in the June issue was no exception. So it’s good to see the conversation carrying on in a variety of forums.

The June issue of Alliance was launched with a special event in magnificent surroundings at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, as part of Rianta Capital’s Social Investor Breakfast Club. Guests Jean Oelwang of Virgin Unite and Chris West of the Shell Foundation were the panellists for an absorbing roundtable chaired by guest editor Alejandro Litovsky. Over 50 social investors attended the meeting to discuss some of the issues raised in the magazine and share ideas.

Following on from that event, Litovsky, who is Director of the Pathways to Scale programme at Volans, has identified four main themes that emerged from the breakfast conversation. Under the headings ‘Consider strategies for scale’, ‘Find the right partners’, ‘Focus on growing a new economy’ and ‘Rethink what you measure’, he sets out what he has found to be the most important considerations for social investors looking to scale up in the future.
